An original birth gift: why embroider the baby's name

Broderie personnalisée naissance Faïença, prénom brodé sur tambour, cadeau fait main

Choosing a birth gift often means looking for something personal enough not to blend in with everything else, and simple enough that the parents don't have to manage anything. The soft toy is already there. So are the bodysuits. An embroidery with the baby's name is not.

At the studio, I embroider a 16 cm hoop: the child's name, a floral or fruity pattern, the colours you choose. The piece ships from Barcelona, ready to give, ready to hang.

What makes this gift different

It carries a single name, the right one. No one else has an identical piece. It doesn't go in the wash at 40°, it doesn't get lost in a toy bin. It gets photographed on opening day, then stays in the room.

It's also a gift you can prepare without knowing the date, the weight, or the time yet. The name is enough. Everything else, if you'd like, can go in the notes.

Who it's for, in practice

  • Godmother or godfather — a gift that says the bond, without being jewellery too soon.
  • Grandparents — an object seen on every visit.
  • A close friend — more fitting than a card and a soft toy already received three times over.

If you're putting together a baby registry, it's one of the rare items no one else will tick twice.

How to order without getting it wrong

On the custom creation page, choose the occasion “Birth”, the finish “Embroidered hoop”, then the name and the type of pattern. An inspiration photo is welcome, never required.

Four techniques: cotton (€50), wool (€55), silk (€60), Lunéville with beads and sequins (€70). For a first birth gift, cotton or silk are the most obvious choices.

Studio time is 2 to 3 weeks. Ideally, order as soon as the name is announced — not the week of the birth. The full timeline is here.

An original gift isn't a strange gift. It's a gift you still recognise, years later.

Give an embroidery with the baby's name — handmade, one of a kind, ready to hang.

To refine the pattern: what to embroider on a birth gift. For the format: why a hoop.
